Ice Hockey Champions Visit Brno City Hall

It took seven years to reclaim the title, but this season the team, led by head coach Kamil Pokorný, finally returned to the top. Despite widespread predictions against them, Kometa eliminated Karlovy Vary as well as the heavily favoured Sparta Prague and Pardubice to capture the club’s fourteenth Czech championship title. To celebrate this remarkable achievement, Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková and members of the City Council invited the players and coaching staff to a ceremonial reception held in the Knights’ Hall of Brno City Hall. “Brno is a city of ice hockey, and it seemed that everyone here followed Kometa’s journey to the championship. I am delighted that their remarkable season ended in victory, and I would like to thank every player and member of the coaching staff for the unforgettable moments and joy they brought to our city. On behalf of Brno, I can assure you that we will continue to support ice hockey, as demonstrated by the construction of our new multifunctional arena,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková. Each member of the championship-winning team received a commemorative St. Wenceslas gold ducat and a plaque. The ceremony also included a toast and a photo session with representatives of the City of Brno. Kometa owner Libor Zábranský also presented Mayor Markéta Vaňková with a replica of the championship trophy.
