The new multifunctional arena in Brno will be named T ARENA.

The new state-of-the-art multifunctional arena currently under construction in the Brno district of Pisárky will be named T ARENA and branded with the iconic “T” logo. The two-year partnership with an option for a one-year extension will bring cutting-edge infrastructure, ensuring reliable connectivity, secure operations, and support for advanced digital services, while also offering a wide range of exclusive benefits for T-Mobile customers.

The City of Brno first presented the site for the new arena in the western part of the Brno Exhibition Centre in February 2019. “Less than seven years have passed since then—we secured the land, completed the design and permitting process, selected the construction contractor, and since September 2023 work has been progressing at full speed on one of Brno’s largest strategic projects. The grand opening in autumn 2026 will be a milestone for our city. Brno will finally gain a multifunctional arena offering modern facilities, state-of-the-art technology, and an outstanding visitor experience,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková. She added: “We see this project as highly significant not only for our residents but also in terms of business opportunities and tourism. Excellent accessibility via the motorway network and Brno’s ring road, together with the proximity of the international airports in Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest, and Kraków, are major advantages.”

“The nearly CZK 5 billion project (excluding VAT) will accommodate up to 13,300 spectators, offer 30 different event configurations, and provide 1,300 parking spaces. We expect to host around one hundred events each year. More than 60% of the programme will consist of concerts by Czech and international artists, family entertainment, and other cultural events. Sport will also play a major role. The arena will become the home of HC Kometa Brno and will transform into the Czech Republic’s second-largest ice hockey arena on match days. We have already secured several European championships and world championship events,” said Petr Kratochvíl, Chairman of the Board of ARENA BRNO.

“We see the arena as a gateway to exceptional experiences, bringing together sport, culture, and entertainment while delivering outstanding benefits to our customers. We are preparing early ticket access through Magenta Moments, competitions with attractive prizes, dedicated customer zones, and many other features, all of which will be unveiled before T ARENA opens next year. What we can already promise is outstanding connectivity and cutting-edge digital services, allowing visitors to share their experiences with friends and family while feeling #MeziSvými. We also believe the concert programme will attract T-Mobile customers from neighbouring countries,” said Petar Babić, Chief Commercial Officer for the Consumer Segment and Member of the Management Board of T-Mobile Czech Republic.

Hosting large numbers of visitors within a confined space places exceptional demands on network capacity and connectivity. T-Mobile will therefore deploy a comprehensive solution built on advanced infrastructure that ensures reliable connectivity, secure operations, and support for modern digital services for both visitors and arena operators. Drawing on extensive experience from similar projects, the company will implement proven technologies alongside innovative solutions focused on flexibility, scalability, customer experience, and future technological development, helping transform T ARENA into a digital hub for entertainment and innovation. Among the technologies deployed will be the latest Massive MIMO (mMIMO) solutions for the mid-band and C-band spectrum, successfully tested by T-Mobile as the first operator in the Czech Republic. Priority communications for the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) will also be ensured. To provide seamless connectivity for visitors, the arena will be divided into seven network sectors—comparable to giving every street in a city its own dedicated mobile base station. The fibre-optic network will span several dozen kilometres. In terms of data capacity, a single sold-out event will generate more traffic than an entire small town does in one day.

More about the arena:

The arena measures 151 × 108 metres above ground level and reaches a height of approximately 29.5 metres. The building footprint covers 16,470 m², while the enclosed volume totals 475,000 m³. Construction required 6,826 tonnes of steel and 30,000 m³ of concrete, with a total formwork area of 69,054 m². The reinforced concrete structure was built to PB2 architectural concrete standards, ensuring a high-quality visual finish. During construction of the 60 cm foundation slab, six truckloads of reinforcement steel and three truckloads of formwork materials were delivered every day. At the peak of construction, approximately 170 people worked on-site simultaneously, including 14 engineers, 40 steel fixers, 70 carpenters, 25 concrete workers, and 31 labourers. The roof was installed using Europe’s largest crane with a lifting capacity of 750 tonnes. The arena consists of eight levels—two underground and six above ground.

More technological details:

With a total area of up to 30,000 m², variable layouts, and acoustically demanding zones, the arena requires a highly advanced and flexible technical solution.

To ensure high-quality mobile coverage throughout the venue, a robust Indoor Distributed Antenna System (iDAS) will be installed. The system is designed to accommodate the specific requirements of each area, including the seating bowl, entrance halls, garages, back-of-house facilities, and food and beverage outlets. The iDAS operates as a network of smaller antennas distributed throughout the building, delivering a strong and consistent signal directly to every part of the venue. The concept can be compared to a multi-speaker sound system: instead of relying on a single source whose signal would weaken through walls and ceilings, the iDAS distributes coverage evenly across the entire arena. The system is based on Radio Remote Units (RRUs) and baseband RRUs (bRRUs) connected via combiner panels to a coaxial cable network, ensuring stable, high-quality coverage even in areas with significant signal attenuation.

The latest Massive MIMO (mMIMO) technology will be deployed across the mid-band and C-band spectrum. T-Mobile was the first operator in the Czech Republic to successfully test this technology. Its unique capability lies in directing radio signals precisely where they are needed, allowing the network to serve thousands of visitors simultaneously without compromising speed or quality. The result is fast and reliable connectivity for every visitor, even during sold-out events.

To maximise capacity and throughput, the network will utilise a broad range of frequency bands: NR700 (10 MHz), LTE800 (10 MHz), GSM900, LTE1800 (20 MHz), LTE2100 (20 MHz), LTE2600 (30 MHz), and the key 5G C-Band 3500 (130 MHz). SISO (Single Input Single Output) technology will further ensure stable coverage even in areas where signal propagation would otherwise be challenging.

The combined bandwidth available for the seating bowl will reach 220 MHz, enabling peak download speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps. Depending on actual radio-frequency conditions inside the arena, the total aggregated network capacity across the seating bowl and arena floor may reach an impressive 45 Gbps.

The arena’s fibre-optic backbone will provide exceptional data capacity for video transmission in any resolution supported by current camera technology, including 8K and beyond.

More than 500 optical fibres (shared by all three mobile operators) will connect the lower and upper technical rooms, with the total fibre length extending to several dozen kilometres.

The seating bowl will be divided into seven coverage sectors—six dedicated to the spectator areas and one central sector covering the arena floor—ensuring precise and even distribution of network capacity.

The arena will be connected to the telecommunications infrastructure via dark fibre. Two bundles of 48 fibres will provide substantial capacity for future expansion. Dark fibre offers complete control over transmission capacity and security while allowing additional capacity to be activated whenever required.

Connectivity will terminate on a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) platform capable of delivering speeds of up to 50 Gbps, depending on T ARENA’s operational requirements.

The solution also places strong emphasis on security and infrastructure resilience. The network is designed to ensure reliable communications for the Integrated Rescue System (IRS), even in emergency situations, while providing full coverage throughout the venue, including garages, back-of-house areas, and evacuation routes. In practice, this means emergency services receive priority network access even when the network is operating at full capacity.
